The winter season has brought all kinds of new activities for our kids.
Right now we are in the middle of our KidSTRONG enrichment classes. We are teaching jiu-jitsu, playing soccer, and talking about healthy choices of foods and behaviors at home. This includes nutrition games, self-defense and anti bullying, soccer, as well as other enrichment opportunities for elementary school students. These classes are being designed to fit the age specific challenges and needs. As a childcare professional, it has been extremely fun to watch the kids respond with a lot of enthusiasm to learn and smiling through the process.
So far, in the anti-bullying classes, kids are beginning to understand the first component of the lessons: respect. It is important for them to know how a bullied kid feels and how to not be perceived as a bully or engage in bullying behaviors. They also are showing a better understanding and a willingness to keep learning smart moves to control an attacker or get away from a threatening situation with jiu jiutsu. This is a very smart, fun, and comprehensive season so far! It’s allowing us to learn about the students needs so that we can improve our efforts and better serve the whole child.
