Community Coach Training, straight from a Community Coach

On Friday, October 28th, Dana Bronfman, Scholarship Coordinator, and Lee Jones, Director of Programs, led a training for all of The Youth Foundation’s Community Coaches. Veyra Gamboa, one of the Community Coaches in Training, describes her experience with the program:

On Friday in the Community Coach Training we learned a lot about being a leader and how we going to do in The Youth Foundation as a Community Coach.
First, we met all Youth Foundation staff, and they each explained what they do.  Then, we played a game so everyone could to get to know each other, since some of the Community Coaches were newer. After that, Lee Jones talked about The Youth Foundation core values and the rules for being a community coach. For example, one of the rules is that bullying is not going to be tolerated. Additionally, if any community coach wants to work in the after school programs or anything else that The Youth Foundation is involved with, we have to have good grades, which means at least a C average in all classes. Then, we did a team building exercise, where we split up into 4 groups and bbuild the tallest tower we could with out it falling. We also watched The Youth Foundation video that shows everything that they do and how children across the valley enjoy being in their programs. Also, Cristal, the data entry clerk, talked about filling out our paperwork correctly, so we get paid for all of our hard work.  They talked about how being a Community Coach opens many doors for our future and that if we need help or advice we can come to them any time.  Also, that we have to come every Friday, so they can checked our grades and that twice a month we are going to have a meeting and get helped in school and do some fun activities. At the end, we checked are grades and signed up to helped after school. I’m really excited to get to be involved with the program and to help in Power Hours.
