The Fall Soccer Tournament Wraps Up a Fantastic Season!

The morning of October 22nd fourteen local soccer teams, seven girls and seven boys, gathered on the field at Freedom Park in Edwards. It was a beautiful, clear day Parents were out in full support, despite the early hour, and there were plenty of Community Coaches to act as referees. It was the perfect day for a tournament!

And what a tournament it was! From the boys’ side, the semi-finals included a nail-biting match between the Gypsum Creek team and the team from Vail Mountain School, with Gypsum Creek taking a surprising victory! The finals was a match up between the Gypsum Creek team and the Berry Creek team, with the Berry Creek boys emerging victorious.

And the girls’ final was definitely drama filled, especially the second half. Going in to the second half the Berry Creek girls were leading 3-0 over the Gypsum Creek girls. It looked like the game was over, but then the Gypsum girls came back to tie the game and take it into overtime. The score remained 3-3 until the penalty kicks, when the Gypsum Creek girls finally made their way to their first tournament victory! And no one deserved it more; the entire team had tears in their eyes from the joy of winning!

All around it was a great ending to the season. I can’t wait to see everyone out again in the spring!

  1. The Gypsum girls came back to tie the game even when the game seemed to be over and take it into overtime.
